student of Straton of Lampsacus (Diels, DG 313), observed the summer solstice in 280 BC and lived before Archimedes. From this the period
of his life is estimated to be around 310 to 230 BC. Only one work by A. is preserved: Περὶ μεγεθῶν καὶ ἀποστημάτων ἡλίου καὶ σελήνης
