P Oxy. 1611 col. 1, 127ff.), probably a pupil of Eratosthenes [2] of Cyrene (cf. Suda s.v. Ἐρατοσθένης/Eratosthénēs). M. wrote a work entitled Περίπλους (Períplous) or Περιηγήσεις (Perihēgḗseis), consisting of several books, in which, arranged according to geographical areas (Europe, Asia, Libya), myths and θαυμάσια/thaumásia (‘miracle stories’) are interpreted in a rational, euhemeristic way....."
