1867, p. 1041: "Menippus,a comic poet, according to Suidas, but Meineke suspects, on very good
grounds, that the name is only a corruption of Hermippus.."
Brill's New Pauly: "Greek comedy writer of unknown dates, only attested
in the Suda [1], which mentions Κέρκωπες ‘among others’ as the title of a work...Attempts to
change the name to ‘Hermippus or to equate M. with the cynic writer M. [4] remain uncertain."
