His grandfather was given Roman citizenship by Pompeius... during the Sertorius War, and his father held a prominent position of trust in the service of Caesar (Iust. 43,5,11 f.). P. himself wrote a treatise De animalibus (fr. 1-14) based on the zoological writings of Aristotle in at least 10 books (Char. GL 1, p. 137,9), which was received e.g. in the Naturalis historia of Plinius and a Historiae Philippicae (= H.P.) in 44 books, his main work, appeared in the Augustan period ..with limited acceptance by scholars: written under Tiberius).
