Brill's New Pauly: "Epigrammatist of the ‘Garland’ of Meleager... (Anth. Pal. 4,1,28). Three poems are ascribed to him: to ‘M. from Samos’ (Μ. Σάμιος) the epigrams Anth. Pal. 9,54 (= Stob. 4,50,62) and 55 (the alternative ascription to Lucillius could be correct), two distichs on old age, to ‘M. from Smyrna’ (Μ. Σμυρναῖος) the poem 9,390 (with a pathos-filled description of an infanticide). To which M. Meleager is referring is impossible to say: the frequency of the name speaks against identification, which would assume a corruption in the ethnika." Albiani, Maria Grazia (Bologna). "Menecrates."
