Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, Vol 2, 1867, p. 624-: "Isaeus, one of the ten Attic orators, whose orations were contained in the Alexandrian canon..."
Brill's New Pauly: "Isaeus, Attic orator, 4th cent. B.C., Attic logographer from about the 1st half of the 4th cent. BC, son of Diagoras... he precise dates of his life are unknown
among the datable surviving speeches the earliest can be dated to about 389 and the latest to perhaps 344/3. Athens and Chalcis in Euboea are named as his birthplace. The fact that I. was in no way politically involved throughout his life, however, speaks for him having lived (as did Lysias) as a metic in Athens... In antiquity 64 speeches by I. were known, of which 50 were considered genuine. We have 56 titles, ten speeches have survived complete, and one incomplete, as well as fragments, including a very extensive one, recorded by Dion. Hal. (Or. 12 in modern editions)..."
