Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, Vol , 1867, p. 1:
Brill's New Pauly: "Apollonius Sophista, Greek grammarian and lexicographer, 1st cent. AD,.... A. was the author of a Homer lexicon, of which a copy is extant, admittedly as an epitome, in a 10th-cent. manuscript (Coisl. 345). Fragments of the lexicon have been found on papyri (1st to 6th cents.) but they are problematic, differing not only from Coisl. 345 but also among themselves. Further information comes from late classical and Byzantine lexicography, since A. is a source for Hesychius and the Etymologica..."
